The political atmosphere in Nakaseke District was filled with excitement and renewed hope as the newly elected District Chairperson, Koomu Ignatius, together with district councillors, officially took oath of office in a colorful swearing-in ceremony attended by leaders, civil servants, supporters, and residents from across the district.
The ceremony marked the beginning of a new political term, with leaders pledging commitment to service delivery, accountability, and transformation of the district. In his maiden remarks after taking oath, Koomu Ignatius thanked the people of Nakaseke for entrusting him with leadership and promised to prioritize unity, development, and improved social services.
The event was further highlighted by a heated race for the position of District Speaker, where Cynthia emerged victorious after securing 23 votes against her rival Kimuli, who garnered 13 votes. Her victory was welcomed with loud cheers from councillors and supporters, signaling confidence in her leadership abilities to steer council business during the new term.
In another competitive contest, Kyeyune John was elected Deputy Speaker after obtaining an impressive 25 votes, defeating Kaasa, who managed only 9 votes. The outcome reflected the overwhelming support Kyeyune commanded among councillors as the district begins a fresh leadership chapter.
Shortly after his swearing-in, Chairperson Koomu Ignatius unveiled part of his executive team by nominating Makanga as the District Vice Chairperson. He also named several members to serve in the district cabinet, including Rwabirnda, Nakayenga, and Moses as ministers tasked with supporting the district’s development agenda.
Leaders who attended the ceremony called for teamwork, transparency, and collective responsibility in addressing key challenges affecting residents, including infrastructure, education, health services, and youth empowerment.
The ceremony ended in jubilation as supporters celebrated the new leadership, expressing optimism that the incoming administration will accelerate service delivery and foster sustainable development across Nakaseke District.
